For one last bit of steeze we hiked up to Valencia Peak Saturday morning. Epic views and a bit of elevation gain led to an amazing hike.
Met a really cool couple on the trail ( who took this pic of us at the top) They were in their 60s and training to hike into the Grand Canyon with their grand Daughter. The husband hikes every Saturday morning before sunrise, lets talk about goals!
After our hike, we went in to Morro Bay for coffee and an Acai bowl!
What an amazing few days on the Central Coast… filled with hikes and brews I really couldn’t ask for anything more!
Last weekend my friend and I took a trip from the Bay to the Central Coast. We lived together in SLO during college and were looking forward to a weekend of all our favorite SLO area things.
First stop Firestone, dinner and a flight were a must after nearly three hours in the car. Have really been loving the sours coming out of Firestone.
Next morning up and ready to go early, gotta get our Black Horse and SLO Donut Co. fix. They even have gluten free donuts these days… so no excuses not to go!
Chels and I both had work to do in the morning but once the afternoon rolled around we were raring for a hike! We found the Cuesta Ridge Botanical Hike and couldn’t believe we hadn’t done it before. Equal parts up and downhill but filled with epic views from start to finish!
A well deserved summit Brew!
Wooooweee does life getter better than these views! So amazing.
What is my favorite thing to after a bunz busting hike? Drink a brew or two of course…
We headed to Bang the Drum Brewery. Great space, indoor and out. Really friendly staff and most importantly great beers!
We went back to the hotel to freshen up before heading downtown for the night.
On our way DT we stopped at Central Coast Brewing for a couple baby beers.
Next stop, Barrelhouse Speakeasy. This is one of the coolest spaces I have ever been to. A fully functioning barbershop and then a full on taproom downstairs.
Super crowded on a Friday night but really fun.
Looking forward to sharing the rest of our weekend this week!
Here are a few of my favorite things from this past week!
SO lucky that I get to view this every day as I workout! Wake up an hour early to live an hour more!
What is better on a Monday night than copious amounts of Gin…?! LOL
With a friend visiting from out of town you tend to get out a little more and this is how I found myself enjoying Gin cocktails this past Monday at Whitechapel on Polk in SF. I am through and through a beer girl but I happened to pick two cocktails that were surprisingly great!
Lunch at Firebrand… SO GOOD. I want to live in this Bakery, so delectable.
Planning a SLO trip with my bestie! Filled with the very best things… blading, hikes, camping, breweries! YAY
Forbidden Island Tiki Bar in Alameda is always a fun spot! All about that Monkey Pod drink.
One of the most amazing Mochas in all the land… at Blue Bottle Cafe. Go and enjoy!
My all time fav backyard hike… not literally backyard but 10 minutes from my house. It is an amazing challenge with bay views and it never gets old to me!
Always trying to have no/less screen time once I get home from work… tried my hand at some watercolor painting and had a blast! I won’t be quitting my day job any time soon but its fun to try my hand at different hobbies!
I usually like to do a ‘Things I Love’ post but this month I realized everything I wanted to share was BEER… so here we have the Beers I am Loving in January 2017.
Fort Point is a brewery local to San Francisco and I have to say that the packaging is what first caught my eye in the refrigerator case at Whole Foods. We have many choices when selecting a beer at the store these days so packaging matters. I love the simplistic design and I am also a big fan of the no label, label… that being said, Manzanita made its way into my cart, home and heart. At 6.5% this Smoked Altbier brewed with charred manzanita is easy to drink but bold at the same time. As it was released in limited edition ( or so I read… ) I need to hop to the store and get a few more bottles soon.
Chromatic Coffee in Santa Clara is a great little spot ( in a strip mall!) to hang out with friends or get some work done on the free wifi. I worked from there one afternoon and wetted my appetite with a brew from Camino Brewing and a meat charcuterie board… I really enjoyed my lunch at the time but found myself to be extremely, EXTREMELY thirsty afterwards.
One of my newest hometown, central coast finds is Libertine… I have been a wild ale fan for a few years now and every beer of theirs I have tried has been AMAZING!
Freddy Got Finger Limed which was on tap at the end of November has left me wanting more… coffee and lime may sound like a weird combo but they work together really well in this sour.
Of course I had to take a little bit to go with me ( love the packaging!)… Libertine is a must stop for me every time I am on the Central Coast.
As we gear up for the release of Pliny the Younger, my friend and I were lucky enough to get the last two bottles of Pliny the Elder at Oak and Rye on a Friday night. People can talk about how overrated Pliny is till they are blue in the face… but as soon as I smell those hoppy notes and indulge in my first sip I find myself falling in love all over again.
Reminiscing over these delightful beers has me jonesing for another delicious brew!
This last weekend was one for the books. I had a great time outside with friends, drinking beer, hiking, smelling the ocean air and enjoying life!
It all started on Friday night with an amazing NEW meatball recipe that was so easy peezy and delicious, some wonderful fresh mojitos, chocolate fondue, early birthday celebration and girl time.
Saturday, we drove to San Luis Obispo for the California Festival of Beers! We tried amazing new beers and old favorites! For dinner, we went to Firestone – tri tip sandwich heaven!
Sunday, Chelsea took us to her new favorite coffee spot in SLO, Scout! The story behind this cute and delish coffee shop is as adorable as the family who owns it! I wish I still lived in SLO so I could hang out at this lil gem all the time.
To truly get our SLO Cal fix we stopped at Montana De Oro. This stretch of coastline is so ruggedly Californian and its one of my favorite places to be.
To cap the long weekend off right we had one last adventure on Monday back in the Bay Area! We got up early and headed out to Bolinas for a hike at Alamere Falls! I have had a few friends recommend this hike so I thought it was time to try it! There is lots of poison oak on this trail – so make sure to know what it looks like before you head out! Also, I suggest wearing shoes with good tread as some parts getting to and from the beach can be very slippery.
Last stop, one of my all time favorites, The Salsalito Taco Shop! Pictured above was a yummy Watermelon Marg!
It was a great weekend filled with fun times and friends.
I am very thankful to all of the Men and Women who have sacrificed so much so that we can enjoy the freedoms we do. Thank you!

Thankful for the past and present places I have been able to call home
and for the people who help make those places a home.
